The MOST EXCITING day of our lives

This event was so hyped up that it would be a travesty not to blog on it!  The Total Solar Eclipse happened this year!  CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE IT? I mean, I just can't even contain myself as I type this!  In all honesty, we had a really great time "celebrating".  We let the kids play hooky from school (because we are cool like that) and went up to the family farm to really be one with nature as we took in this event.  We had our glasses ready, had primo seating on the dock and really just soaked in that darkness!  I know I know I am making complete fun of this event, but it was pretty cool.  I'll leave out the part where I wouldn't let the boys take off their glasses AT ALL to look at the eclipse.  So we really just saw darkness!  Apparently you were allowed to look at it when it was completely covered, who knew?  Don't worry there is another one ON MY BIRTHDAY in 2024 if you missed it!  I think you may have to travel a bit to see that one, but I'm thinking ROAD TRIP!

First Day of School (Kindergarten and 3rd Grade)

Another year, another first day of school on Bennett's birthday!  Right now he doesn't seem to mind it, actually enjoys it, but something tells me in years to come the novelty could wear off.  I wanted to get my annual back to school picture in and the boys threw me a bone and actually participated willingly this year.  We ran outside in the morning before school and knocked it out, and actually got some good ones!

Then it was off to school for these two.  One, who will remain nameless, was too cool for school and wouldn't let us walk him to his class this year!  We had to part ways in the parking lot.  I guess Chad is just too embarrassing!  I mean he does look like a 15 year old in these pictures, so maybe it's a good thing he chose independence this year.

Bennett however was stuck with us.  I was marching in that classroom no matter what he said!  I think every Mom "fears" the first day of Kindergarten (usually more than the kids do).  I didn't think too much about it for Bennett because he went to preschool at the same school, so really the only change was going across the hallway this year!  And I was right.  This was probably the most uneventful Kindergarten drop off in the history of Kindergarten drop offs!  He probably wishes he just left us in the parking lot like his brother.  He put his book bag away, found his name, sat his tush down and started coloring.  Hasn't looked back since.  Here's hoping we have an equally as uneventful year!

Bennett Turns 6!

The little man is not so little, he's 6!  This year he struggled with what he wanted to do for his birthday party.  Not because he couldn't come up with an idea, because he came up with MULTIPLE ideas.  We finally settled on a birthday party at a place that is like an American Ninja Warrior obstacle course, the real perk though is the fact that they do a capture the flag Nerf war at the end of the party.  I can't lie, the party was a major success.  I think all of the kids had a great time and were totally worn out (so the parent's liked it too).  We had a pretty eclectic crew this year.  A few cousins, a few friends from school, a few friends from the neighborhood and a few friends that are kids of our high school friends.  We are going to have to work on this invite list eventually, but for now...go big or go home!  You will note, there was a strict "no girl" policy this year.  He granted an exception for Moms, but apparently girls have cooties these days so we just had a lot of stinky boys running around.  I bet he changes his mind next year when his sister is around, something tells me he will want her at his party!
