Destin...Day 4

Girls Day!  No Kids!  Drinks!  No Kids!  Kayaking!  No Kids!  Lunch!  No Kids!  Relaxing on the beach!  No Kids!

Yes, Day 4 was girls day.  We went back and forth on what to do and landed on renting some kayaks, having a long leisurely lunch and then relaxing on the beach (the beach far far away from our kids).  We had an incredible day.  It was the perfect mix of action and relaxation.  The only thing I can't really say was stellar about the day are my pictures.  No kids = No big camera.  But we do have some splendid camera phone shots.  We tried really hard to get a picture of all 4 of us in the kayaks but that was kind of disaster.  I'm sure someone on that beach has some awesome pictures of Julia and I flipping our kayak though...twice.  Let me give you a hint, when getting into a kayak in the ocean go ahead and walk it out beyond the shore a little bit.  You're welcome.

Destin...Day 3

On day 3 we took in the beach (shocker) where the big game on this particular day was to bury people knee deep in the sand.  It's the little things I guess!  After the beach we headed down to the Harbor for the evening.  We got all touristy and had dinner at Margarittaville, went on a pirate cruise and ended the evening with Ice Cream while we took in a little parade.  When we do it, we do it up right folks.  We jammed packed our night with fun because we figured we wouldn't be making it back to the Harbor again this trip.  I must say, it was a perfect evening.  The kids were champs, we had awesome weather for a boat ride, Julia and Steve won a hula-hoop contest (no big deal) and we timed everything just right.  We are getting pretty darn good at this vacationing with a big crowd thing.  Some might call us experts, and we are certainly for hire if you're looking for vacation consultants!

Destin Day 1...and 2

As it turns out I only took like 10 pictures our first day of vacation so I decided I needed to combine Day 1 and Day 2 for this post.  I know I wouldn't believe it either unless I saw it with my own two eyes.  Believe it or not I was trying not to be super annoying with my camera this vacation, I think I was fairly successful (for me anyway).  I came home with less than 300 pictures total.  Which I know seems like a ton of pictures to the average bear, but you're talking about a girl that can drop 175 pictures in two hours at The Magic House like it's nothing.  I digress.  Don't blink or you will miss Day 1, but Day 2 was pretty exciting!

We staged a treasure hunt for the kiddos at the beach on Day 2.  We had gotten some jewels and pirate coins and buried them in the sand and they dug their little hearts out to find them.  It was definitely a hit with the kids, well and the adults who am I kidding?

We finished off Day 2 with our first night of crab hunting.  I had REALLY hyped this event up to everyone.    We had done it last year in Alabama with Chad's family and I was so excited to share the experience with this crew too.  Our adventure started out REALLY slow and I was getting really nervous there were no crab to be had in Destin.  Then ALAS crabs, crabs everywhere.  I heard the squealing children (and parents) and all was well with the world.  Oh the joy those creepy little crabs can bring.  I know these pictures might seem silly to you, because you can barely see anything.  But this is EXACTLY what it looks like when it gets dark on the beach.  Looking up and down the beach all you can see is a bunch of moving flashlights...and it's awesome.

First Stop...Alabama!

We recently went on a little family vacation.  We headed down to Destin, Florida for a week of fun in the sun with 3 other families.  First though, we decided to take a minor detour to visit Chad's Aunt, Uncle and Cousins in Alabama.  They have a  sweet pad on a lake/river/body of water and we spent the day enjoying their company, swimming, jumping and boat riding.  We had such a great time and are so grateful for the chance to catch up with this amazing family.  We weren't even out of their driveway the next morning and Chad was already planning a trip back.  Surprise Auchly Family...we're coming back!

Yes, this is Chad on the left.  I have no idea what to call this move he is doing, but nonetheless he's still got it folks!
