Colorado!!

For YEARS we have been wanting to take the kids to Colorado to go skiing, but we kept pushing it off because we thought they were too young blah blah blah.  Well this year we decided was THE YEAR.  It was happening!  So we headed out to Breckenridge to teach the boys how to ski.  Thankfully my parents also went with us so Little Miss had a partner in crime (read: my mom) while we hit the slopes.  I would love to tell you that this trip was all roses and the boys got out there and just loved it from the second they put on their skis, but that would be a little stretch of the truth.  I will tell you however, this vacation ended up being one my best and most favorite vacations to date.

First off, this was Everly's first flight so we did need to document accordingly...

When we arrived in Breckendridge we had some great snow at our disposal.  So the kids quickly rushed outside for some snow time.  It was DEEP, and I mean really DEEP.  So DEEP Bennett got stuck in the snow and needed to be rescued by Dad!

The beautiful snow did however leave the perfect ingredients for a fantastic snowman.  Which Bennett, Nolan and my Uncle Steve created...

Day 1 of skiing started out rocky for Bennett, but he QUICKLY recovered and soon became a huge fan.  We had signed the boys up for 2 days of ski school.  We chose a smaller class size so they could get a little more one on one instruction.  Turns out, Bennett was the only one his age so he had an instructor all to himself. While this sounds amazing, to Bennett this was not amazing.  He likes to have little buddies to goof around with etc so I get it.  But by lunch time Chad and I got the call from the instructor that Bennett was "not feeling well" and didn't want to go back out.  Seems as though Chad and I's lovely ski date was over for the day!  Nolan however, had 3 other students in his class and he made fast friends and was skiing great by the end of Day 1.  The below picture of Nolan and Chad is right after they went on their first run together. Doesn't Chad look so proud?  The picture of Chad and I is when we were carefree skiers for those few hours by ourselves, ahhhhhh.

We decided to try something different the next day so we headed to Keystone to do some tubing.  We had SO MUCH FUN.  I think it was nice for Bennett too, a little more low key as he was struggling a bit with the altitude etc.  We got to do some tubing, had lunch at the top of the mountain and got to explore a little snow castle.  You can see by the end of the day the boys were EXHAUSTED!

Can't forget about our cute little snow bunny back at the cabin.  She was loving the snow too!

Okay, back to skiing.  Bennett ensured us that he still wanted to ski he just DID NOT want to go to ski school.  And Nolan decided he didn't want to go either, so we had a couple of ski school drop outs on our hands!  But we threw them on that chairlift and were on our way!  I have to say, Chad was an EXCELLENT teacher.  And was more patient than I have ever seen him before IN MY LIFE.  Yes, that was capitalized for a reason.  And Bennett caught on super fast!  We were officially a skiing family of 4! Couple more years and we will make it 5!  All of the skiing pictures from the next two days all look the same to me (since I'm posting this a year later) so I'll just add them all here in no particular order!  On the last day my Dad and Aunt Sue joined us as well, to have some fun and see the boy's progress.  I have to say, I think they were impressed we made it to the Blues...I know I was! They also got to take some adventures through the trees with us, because it turns out little boys love going through the trees and the obstacle courses (moms...not so much).

On the last day we went into town grabbed lunch, did a little souvenir shopping and then conned the kids into taking a family picture.  I mean what's vacation without a family picture? It's almost like it didn't even happen!  We rewarded them with a trip to the local hockey game.  When in Colorado right?

The next day it was time to go home.  We had so much fun, but we were all exhausted.
I give you exhibit A....
