The Year of the Parasite

So we decided to spend an extra couple of days at the lake this year with Chad's family.  It turns out if you stay at the lake on Monday and Tuesday you have the lake completely to yourself.  It's amazing I will not lie to you.  There were absolutely no waves in the water, the restaurants weren't near as crowded, you could ski/tube whenever you wanted and you could even walk across the dock without fear of falling in with every step.  Highlights for the kids this year include fishing (lots and lots of fishing), jumping off the high dive (even Bennett...sorry Mom) and tubing (until Bennett got pulled under the wake...sorry Mom).  So our 4 days at the lake were pretty awesome, but that is not where the "fun" ended.  The following week 5 of the 7 kids that were with us were sick and I mean SICK.  And the sickness for some of them went on for almost two weeks.  Finally my nephew got tested and we found out he had a parasite which most likely was picked up at the lake.  Chad got sick about a week after the kids and he recently got his test results back and he too had the parasite!  Everyone is healthy now but I think this year will definitely be known as "The Year of the Parasite", and hopefully this will be the ONLY year of the parasite!!

Weekend in Kansas City

We had a random weekend open this summer, as did my brother and his family, so we decided to go see the rents in Kansas City.  We didn't have any grandiose plans but we managed to fill the weekend up with lots of fun things for the kids and adults alike.  The boys played a round of golf while the girls tried to keep the little boys occupied with water guns and then we attempted to go to a festival (for like a hot second because it was miserably hot).  Once we ditched the festival we hit up the local "white cheese" restaurant per the request of a certain 3 year old (and his Grandpa).  I'm not complaining though they had one killer Margarita!  The next day the boys convinced Grandpa that he needed to put the huge water-slide up in the backyard where the boys proceeded to slide and splash for most of the morning.    Another fun weekend in Kansas City for this crew and we even managed to teach cousin Cy how to make farting noises with his hands.  All in a weekend's work for this crew!

Day at the Land

We've had a super busy summer.  I am not complaining AT ALL, I love having all kinds of stuff to do.  Chad, well Chad can be the Debbie Downer of the crowd sometimes (shocker) and likes to stay home every now and again to take a breather.  There are exceptions to this rule.  When people invite us to their land, their farm or the lake.  These are the things that make Chad happy, his Mecca if you will.  And he will rarely say no.  Win for me!  Anyway, on this particular day our friends were spending the day at their parents land (inclusive of a lake: double whammy in the Chad game of life) and we were lucky enough to join them.  The boys LOVED it.  We swam, fished, paddle boarded and just hung out.  It was a wonderfully relaxing day and we can't wait to go back (hint hint Scallys if you're reading).
